MCDOT selected EPS Group to complete a one mile CAR (similar to a mini-DCR) evaluating potential improvements to Jackrabbit Trail between Van Buren Street and McDowell Road. A variety of traffic models were completed for future design years based on available MAG models and new traffic counts. Roadway alternatives accommodating projected traffic volumes were developed for each design year, and conceptual plans and cost estimates were produced. In particular, design recommendations at the I-10 interchange were particularly challenging given the limited bridge span openings and the presence of a regional drainage channel. To optimize the available span width and accommodate anticipated future traffic, EPS Group recommended a Diverging Diamond TI. Environmental, utility, and drainage analyses were also completed.
