Pima County Department of Transportation identified two locations on Picture Rocks Road west of Tucson that have experienced high accident rates. A tight hairpin curve at the bottom of the Picture Rocks Wash has seen 55 crashes over nine years and a series of reverse curves approximately one mile west has seen twelve crashes over seven years. EPS Group investigated these areas, developed some alternatives to reduce crashes and prep area cost/benefit analysis of the alternatives. The scoping document (PA) EPS Group prepare disused to apply for federal safety funding. The PA covers the existing conditions; right-of-way constraints and need for additional right-of-way; environmental considerations such as the presence of elements of historical, archaeological or biological significance; geotechnical limitations; and potential utility conflicts.
