EPS Group provided civil engineering and surveying for this 1.75-mile railway extension. The project included roadway design, drainage design, utility design, utility coordination, mapping, ALTA Surveys, right-of-way plans, and more than 200 legal descriptions and exhibits. During the value engineering workshop for this complex $125 million project, EPS recommended several cost-saving alternatives including relocating the Gilbert Road Station, which saved the project $1.5 million, and alternatives to Mesa Standards to resolve utility conflicts, which saved the project $400,000. These cost saving measures required comprehensive coordination, particularly with several dry utility designers that were often less than responsive in their schedules and in the quality of their design. EPS Group’s meticulous oversight of quality control saved the project significant field conflicts, delays, and costs. EPS also led the preparation of an early work package for the CMAR, including a separate City of Mesa lining project for “old” sewer mains and manholes.
