EPS Group played a significant role in the design of the Chicago Cubs’ new Spring Training facility, a project that spanned approximately 140 acres. The project involved the conversion of the old Riverview Golf Course into a clean site for the new facility’s proposed land uses. EPS Group provided civil engineering, traffic engineering, construction staking, and surveying services for the design of the facility, which included demolitions, grading, site infrastructure, utilities, parking, and roadway design.

In addition to these services, EPS Group was also involved in high-capacity roundabout design and analysis, curb, paving, signing and striping, horizontal control, building utility connection plans, and site drainage. The site drainage was a particularly complex aspect of the project and required significant coordination with the Arizona Department of Transportation to ensure that their facilities were used in the most efficient way possible.

We were also a prime participant in the overall planning of the site’s future retail and commercial centers, which included the redesign of the 42-acre Riverview Park. The park’s redesign incorporated pedestrian facilities, ramadas, new athletic fields, maintenance of the existing softball complex, numerous water features, a lakeside pavilion, restrooms, rock climbing walls, and playgrounds.

Additionally, the project involved the overall planning of the future retail and commercial centers surrounding the park, the development of demolition plans, and the design of the new lake, which included service to many mechanical components such as the lake pump house, restroom facility, splash pad, fountain feature, and entry monument pool.

EPS Group maintained the fast-track project schedule in this CMAR environment, completing the demolitions, mass grading, and infrastructure utilities pre-package in just eight weeks.

This greatly benefited the bidding and budgeting processes for the entire project team.

The firm’s expertise in civil and traffic engineering, construction staking, surveying, and site drainage, as well as its ability to maintain a fast-track project schedule, helped to ensure that the project was completed on time and within budget.
