ADOT – SR 347 UPRR Overpass wins American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), 2020 America’s Transportation Awards (West Region) – First Place, Quality of Life / Community Development
SR 347 was also recognized in a national transportation competition that focuses on efforts to strengthen communities, improve the quality of life and foster a more efficient economy. This project required extensive public outreach efforts to keep stakeholders informed and ensure community support.
EPS Group presented initial concepts for the route’s grade separation to Maricopa businesses, residents and the Ak-Chin Community Tribal Council, informing all about the project and listening to concerns. Public feedback led to modifications in the proposed road layout to help preserve a long-standing business. Since its opening, the bridge has sparked nearby commercial development and job creation while creating a safer way for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers to bypass the railroad tracks.
